The heart of the house — tables, conversation, and a proper place to settle in.
A historic schoolhouse pouring Virginia cider, plating local favorites, and keeping a seat for the neighborhood.
In Providence Forge, where New Kent County still keeps its historic bones, a 1920s schoolhouse keeps its chalkboards while setting its tables for supper. Old School Cider House is now the town’s dining room, living room, and gathering place — a place built for the community, in a building neighbors already know by heart.
Jackie and Mark Smith opened the doors in September 2025 after years of bringing the building back to life. The cider is Virginia. The rooms still have names. The report cards are on the tables if you want to leave a grade.
Our storyEach room keeps a piece of the building’s first life. Some have restaurant tables. Some have couches and books. All of them are available for birthdays, book clubs, showers, and the kind of gathering that needs a door you can close.
